LisFranc fracture dislocation

I was coming home from work one night, I am a hairstylist, and I was hit by a drunk driver. I did not realize my foot was hurt until the next day. I did hurt my neck and back. I never had problems with my foot until the accident. I am a very busy hairstylist, I am 55 years old. When I get finish with my clients by that night. of course i stand the whole day, I cannot hardly walk my left foot is paining me so bad and swells, but it is not just work now it hurts all the time from the top of my left foot sometimes sending pain into the ankle and up the leg. When lay down at night it hurts so bad I cry, even when a sheet or blanket on the bed touches the top of my foot it hurts so bad, the left foot looks from the top portion of the foot swollen at the top of the foot over to the left side of the foot. You can see a big difference in the left from the right foot. It hurts to even touch the top if the left foot with your finger, bad pain. What could be wrong with my foot?

DR.’S RESPONSE:  There could be a variety of problems that you suffered as a result of your accident.  The symptoms you are describing sounds like an injury called a LisFranc fracture dislocation.  This could be a ligament rupture in the middle of your foot or a fracture of the bones of the middle of your foot.  I would recommend that you see a podiatrist, a physician specially trained in the foot and ankle.  Another condition that may be a result of an untreated injury is called complex regional pain syndrome, although this is less likely.
